What you will be asked to show before the door is opened
Before a home is opened you have to show you belong at that address. If you live there: ID with that address, a tenancy agreement in your name, a recent utility bill, or your padrón certificate. If you are staying in a holiday flat: the booking confirmation naming that address, plus your passport. Being a guest rather than the owner is not the obstacle — having nothing at all linking you to the address is.
Why it is asked
Because opening a home for someone who has no right to be there can amount to unlawful entry, and the locksmith carries that responsibility. A professional who does not check is not doing you a favour: they are telling you how they work.
It is the same reason a car needs its registration document and a safe needs the deeds or the invoice.
If you live there
ID card, NIE or passport showing the address of the property. Simplest when it matches.
A tenancy agreement in your name. Perfectly valid and normal for rented flats.
An electricity, water, gas or internet bill in your name at that address. A phone bill works if it shows the address.
A padrón certificate. The strongest of the lot, though you have to request it in advance.
Title deeds also work, or your removal paperwork if you have just moved in.
If you are on holiday
This is the common case along this coast in summer, and it has a straightforward answer. The booking confirmation is what does the job — the Airbnb, Booking or agency email that shows the address and your name. Have it open on your phone; it does not need printing.
Bring your passport or ID as well, so the name on the booking and the name on the document match.
If the booking is in a travel companion’s name, have them present or on the phone. If the flat is managed by an agency, their contact number helps too — a call to the host settles it in a minute.
If you have nothing to hand
Say so when you call, not on arrival. In many cases it is solved by showing the paperwork on your phone, or asking a relative or your host to send it.
If there is genuinely no way to establish it, a serious locksmith will not open. The alternative is the local police, who can record the incident and witness the opening.

What about a second home?
The deeds, the council tax receipt or a utility bill for that address all work.
