Reinforced doors
A reinforced door is an ordinary door — timber, nearly always — with a steel plate added on the inside and a better lock. It protects considerably more than a plain door and costs considerably less than an armoured one. The difference matters and almost nobody explains it: a reinforced door strengthens what you already have; an armoured door replaces the door and frame with a single steel block.

The price above is what gets charged. These are the only reasons it could change, and you are always told before anything starts:
- Dimensions of the door and the opening
- Thickness of the reinforcing plate
- The lock and cylinder that go with it
- Whether the frame needs reinforcing too

Frequently asked questions
Reinforced or armoured?
If the current frame is sound and you want to move up a level without building work, reinforced. If you want maximum protection and can take on replacing the frame as well, armoured. I look at your door and tell you which genuinely pays off.
Can the door I already have be reinforced?
Often yes, if the leaf and hinges will take the added weight. If the door is thin or has warped, replacing it works out better.
Is it any use if the frame is weak?
Not much. A heavily reinforced door in a weak frame opens by taking the frame with it. That is why the whole thing always gets checked.
