A security cylinder is not a category, it is a scale. Some cylinders only stop bumping; others also resist snapping and drilling; and then there is the level of patented keys with an ownership card. Paying for the top rung when the door is timber and gives way to the first kick protects nothing: the whole thing gets looked at.

The price above is what gets charged. These are the only reasons it could change, and you are always told before anything starts:
- Protection grade: anti-bump, anti-pick, anti-snap or a combination
- Whether it carries a patented key with an ownership card

- Whether an escutcheon and master keying are needed

Frequently asked questions
What is the real difference between a €30 one and a €120 one?
How long it holds and which techniques it stops. A basic one gives way to bumping in seconds; a good one resists bumping, picking, snapping and drilling. If your door is reinforced, the cylinder is usually the weak link, and there it is worth it.
What is master keying?
One key that opens several locks: the main entrance, the storage room, the garage and your flat. Very useful in apartment blocks, and it saves carrying six keys.
Is an expensive cylinder worth it on an ordinary door?
Not much. If the door is thin timber or the frame is loose, they come in that way and never touch the lock. The whole door gets looked at and I tell you where your real weak point is.
