A smart lock solves one specific problem: giving and taking away access without handing out keys. For a holiday let or a house with a lot of people coming and going it is superb. For an ordinary home where only you go in, it is often paying to solve something that does not happen to you. I will say so before selling you one.

What can change the price
The price above is what gets charged. These are the only reasons it could change, and you are always told before anything starts:
- Type of opening: code, fingerprint, card or phone
- Whether it replaces the cylinder or the whole lock
- Compatibility with the existing door
- Whether it needs a network connection or runs standalone

Frequently asked questions
What happens if the battery dies?
Serious models warn you well in advance and carry an emergency route: a hidden physical key or external USB power. If a model has neither, I do not fit it.
Is it more secure than an ordinary lock?
Not necessarily. It is more convenient. Mechanical security still depends on the lock and the frame: a cheap smart lock on a weak door does not protect more, it just opens differently.
Can it be hacked?
The realistic risk is not hacking, it is the shared code nobody has changed in two years. The advantage is being able to revoke access — but you have to actually use it.
I run a holiday let. Is it worth it?
This is the case they were made for. No key handovers, no lost keys in August, and a code per guest that expires on checkout. On this coast it usually pays for itself in a season.
